FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS
The Air in your house can be
3-5X more polluted than outside air!
Q: How can Austin Air offer a 5 year warranty when the rest of the industry offers
only 1?
A: Austin Air is dedicated to building the best air filters in the world. They make
solid no-gimmick machines that are designed to last years. They don't add
fancy gimmicks that can easily break and add little value in the way of getting your air
its cleanest. Austin Air builds solid machines with metal housing that can go on and
on maintenance free. Enjoy...
Q: How do I know when it's ready to change the air filter? Do I just change it
in 5 years on the dot?
A: The Austin Air filter should be replaced approximately every 5 years. This
depends on the environment it is in and the severity of air control required and the fan
speed used throughout it's life. An Austin Air unit may last much longer than 5
years if used in a relatively "cleaner" environment. You will KNOW when
it's time to replace the air filter because 1) The airflow coming out of the unit will be
greatly constricted. 2) Instead of the fresh scent smell coming out of the Austin
Air Filter you WILL smell a strong carbon odor which tells you that the carbon filter is
full.
Q: How can Austin Air's Air Filter last 5 years when everyone else's need to be
changed every 6 months to 1 year?
A: Austin Air Filters are guaranteed to last 5 years because they believe that owning an
appliance should be hassle free and maintenance free. Most manufacturers use 1/2LB
or 1LB of Carbon and about 10FT of true Hepa filter. Austin Air uses up to 15LB of
Carbon and 60Ft of Hepa paper to ensure you 5 years of maintenance free operation.
Now, wouldn't you rather change the air filter every 5 years instead of every 6 months?
Q: What about the Sharper Image® Ionic Breeze? This doesn't use a filter at
all!
A: That's absolutely true! But do you want to clean the Ionic Breeze metal rods
every day? Well that's what you'll have to do to get anywhere close to HEPA air
quality! Besides, the Sharper Image® brand is $$ more expensive! The
Ionic Breeze also does not have a built in fan, which means that air is not circulated
around the room efficiently. You need a healthy amount of air circulation in order
to get clean air THROUGHOUT the room. There are not shortcuts around this reality.
In some independent tests, the Ionic Breeze by Sharper Image® came in dead last in
comparison tests! Probably because the metal rods weren't clean. In fact after
1 hour of use, the quality of the rods have already been compromised! Finally,
any air filter that emits OZONE is a no no! Ozone is a lung irritant and not good
for your lungs. Visit the EPA.ORG website and read for yourself. And the
Sharper Image® unit is known to emit some ozone into the air according to some
independent tests. Stay away from any air filter that uses ozone to kill germs or
clean the air.
Q: How do I maintain my new Austin Air Filter?
A: Austin Air Filters are designed to be maintenance free. The only maintenance
required is a routine vacuuming of the outside unit (where the air flows into) to free the
unit of dust and build up. This can be done once a month. That's it!
Q: What about Germs and Fungi? The Austin Air doesn't have anything to kill
them. Why don't you use an ozone light bulb?

Pollen |

Dustmite |
| What's
in your Air? |
A: Austin Air does not
believe in increasing the price of it's air filters by adding expensive ozone light bulbs
that claim to kill germs and fungi along with other insects. EXPOSURE to this
special UV lamp light is critical. Given that air flows relatively fast through the
air filter, there is very little in the way of EXPOSURE, hence the killing effect of these
special UV Light is limited. Mainly, however, Austin Air believes that once the
little critters are trapped in the filter, they can't harm you. Austin Air believes
in keeping any germs/ insects in the filter regardless of whether they are dead or alive.
And that's what Austin Air Filters do best! They keep the bad stuff away from
your lungs! Emission of ozone into the air is considered to be a lung irritant
according to the EPA. Another reason, why ozone is not utilized by Austin Air!
Q: Is there anything I have to do once I receive my new Austin Air Filter? Is
there any assembly required?
A: Take it out of the box, plug it in, set the speed (choose from 3) and your set!
Nothing else is required. The filter is already pre-installed! Hassle free,
maintenance free operation!
Q: Where should I place my new Austin Air Filter? Do I put it on the floor or on
a table? Does it matter?
A: Place it on the floor or on a table. It's really up to you. Wherever
you believe will geographically clean the most air in that room.
Q: How loud is the Austin Air Filter?
A: The Austin Air Filter comes with 3 speed settings. Speed 1 is whisper quiet.
You can hardly tell that it's on! Speed 2 and 3 sounds like a home fan.
Q: I read that there are 3 speeds. Which should I use?
A: We recommend using speed 3 for best results and the greatest coverage. However,
some may prefer 2 or 1 depending on your tolerance for the fan noise. But in fact,
in speed 3, the noise is like a good home fan and not bad at all. In speed #1, you
can barely hear it.
Q: Should I turn off my Austin Air Filter when I'm not in the house? Can I leave
it on 24/7?
A: We recommend you leave the units on 24/7. They are guaranteed to last 5 years on
speed 3 while being used 24/7. But some customers may choose to turn them off
or reduce the speed at times in order to prolong the life of the filter.
Q: Which unit should I buy? I'm confused! Should I get the Allergy unit,
the full size models or the Jr. model?
A: Buy the Jr. model if you want to just clean a bedroom or any small family room.
Purchase any of the full size models if it's going into a large size living room or family
room with a high ceiling. Of course, the bigger units will offer greater coverage
and better air quality in that room environment. So, the quality of the air in the
room is also a consideration. If you have the extra money and air quality is a
concern then purchase the full size models for the BEST coverage. I would purchase
the Allergy Machine with the HEGA filter if (1) your environment has relatively clean air
(2) You will be lugging the unit around from room to room. The Allergy
machine is lighter and the filter will generally last longer because technically the
filter does not trap odor and other airborn particles as firmly as the Carbon Zeolite
Filter. Purchase the Carbon Zeolite Filter models if you want BETTER air filtration.
The Health Mate Plus with the Super Blend Filter is recommended for SEVERE
environments where you can smell chemicals and other odors. So, the Super Blend
Filter (included in the Health Mate Plus) is the best, and if you want the best, buy that
one. It's only slightly more expensive and it will do a better job of ridding your
house or office of paint smells, machinery odor etc. Generally speaking I would
recommend the Carbon Zeolite Filter Air Filter Units either the full size or the Jr.
Model. But, you can't really go wrong with any of them. They will all improve
the quality of the air dramatically! I hope this explanation helps. If you're
still confused, email technical
support.
Q: I'm still not convinced!
I'm healthy and I don't have asthma! Why should I spend my good hard earned
money on an Austin Air Filter? So what if my indoor air is 300 - 500% worse than
outside air, I feel fine!
A: Austin Air is highly touted and an industry standard, so you know you're not getting an
inferior brand. In fact Austin Air has been rated #1 by most industry journals!
Let me ask you this, do you take vitamins? Do you exercise? Do you try
to eat healthy? If you answered no to the above questions, then I guess you don't
need an Austin Air Filter since you obviously don't care about the long term state of your
health. If you answered yes, then you know how important preventative healthy
nutrition and exercise is! If you choose to live better, longer and more vibrantly
in your latter years, then you must start now and breathe healthy clean air starting
today! If you work in a factory or other industrial environment where the air is
less than good, then it is IMPERATIVE that you give your lungs the best air possible while
you're at home and sleeping. We're not asking you to run 7 miles day, although a
regular exercise program would be great. How much simpler can it be than to turn the
unit on, and just go about your life, and all the while, you're breathing healthy, clean,
HEPA filtered air! Think about it. Aren't you and your family worth at least
$4/ month? BREATH IS LIFE! The Cost of
Not Owning an Austin Air Filter
Q: Ok, how do I order one?
