What is HEPA?
High Efficiency Particulate Air is a filter's ability to trap and
absorb microscopic particles as air flows though the filters. A HEPA air filter is a high
performance air filter that is widely used for people with allergies and asthma. HEPA filters were developed by the Atomic Energy
Commission during the second World War. They were designed to remove radio active dust
from their plants.
HEPA air filters eliminate 99,97% of
particles up to 0.3 microns, almost 300 times smaller than the width of a human hair.
Those particles include dust, dust mites, pollen, spores and bacteria. If these particles
are not removed by HEPA air filter they will remain in your home and office and eventually
find its way into your body when you breathe. |

We breathe over 20,000 times a day. It used to be enough to just open a window for fresh
air, but with all the pollutants in the air today it is just not enough. Pollutants such
as ozone, gas, oil, dust mites, mold, and spores contaminated our daily air. Since we
spend an average of 90% of our time indoors, our indoor air quality is a serious health
issue. HEPA filters usually last
two to five years and do not require any cleaning or maintenance. HEPA air filters are
made of very thin glass fibers which are made into a tightly woven paper. |
Why HEPA?
Many people over the last few years have asked, "why HEPA?" Why is it so
important to have HEPA? Don't the other filters work as well? The answer is HEPA is
greatest filter in the world. The other types are good to a certain point but they could
never compare to HEPA air filters. The quality of HEPA filters is simply far more superior
than that of the average brand.
Even when it comes to vacuum cleaners.
Our old vacuum was put out in a yard sale once we purchased a HEPA vacuum cleaner. The
difference was totally incredible. With the HEPA vacuum cleaner, we really were able to
get deeper into the carpets and remove more of the pollutants than we ever had before.
The reason is this, HEPA air filters
remove up to 99.97% of all particulate down to 0.3 microns. The HEPA air filter is made up
of very thin glass fibers that trap the contaminants so that they do not flow back into
circulation.
Regular filters are not as efficient.
They are made of sponge which get dirty quickly, lose their effectiveness and must be
replaced early and regularly. Other filters are made of stringy mesh material that can
only stop large particles from flowing though. These too tend to get dirty fast.
HEPA air filters last two to five years
before requiring replacement and they rarely needs any kind of maintenance. The thing I
personally like best is that fact that after an hour of placing the HEPA air purifier in
my home, I actually tasted the difference in the fresh air on my tongue and felt the pure
air cleansing my lungs. Now my family and I feel better about ourselves, have more energy
and are more efficient and healthier.
HEPA Air filters were just recommended by the Department of Homeland Security as a defense
against terrorist attacks. www.ready.gov/clean_air.html
